I have been struggling with the idea of painting my “vintage” mid-century table for awhile now and finally did it! I am obsessed with how it came out!

STEP 1 :: After coming to terms with painting your grandma’s/distant relative’s/flea store find table, the first step is always… sand that baby down!! The amount of sanding obviously depends on the look you want – for a while I was thinking about sanding it down and refinishing it, but after getting bored of sanding decided that paint was the way to go. In that case, roughing up the finish is enough – if you’re going to re-stain it, make sure it’s as even as possible.

STEP 2 :: Head over to your favorite home improvement store and pick your poison (paint.) In my case, I bought a quart of Valspar Ultra White in matte finish.

STEP 3 :: Paint while watching some episodes of Law & Order SVU. Kudos if you don’t get paint in your hair while crawling under the table. My mom pointed out later I could have just flipped the table upside down to paint the bottom. Crawling under the table was more fun.

STEP 4 :: I opted for that gold “wow” factor and bought two bottles of Folk Art Metallic “Antique Gold” acrylic paint and painted about the bottom 4 inches of the table to emulate that Mid-Century modern look.

Right now I’ve left all four chairs as they were, but also painted the feet gold to complement the table. I’m not in love with them though, and they may get painted white – or all gold- eventually.
