So, I’ve lived 2 years with this lovely green front door. (The color is Sherwin Williams Privilege Green). I love the color, but it just didn’t POP! Up close, it’s a great color, but the shadow from the porch dulled it and the front of my house just looked B  O  R  I  N  G. It was also starting to crackle and I needed to repaint it anyway… and so it begins…

See? Shadows make it boring.

I decided that I wanted to do a dusty but bright lavender/purple. I initially found Sherwin Williams Thistle and LOVED it, but it ended up looking way too pink on the front door (don’t you hate when that happens?!). Upon my return to Lowe’s to get other purples, I started to question my decision because I randomly stumbled upon HGTV Home Highland Loch ! (More on this later) So, after deciding that Thistle was too pink, and looking at some other purples and then finally talking myself into doing what I originally planned, and not just paint it blue on a whim, the outside got painted HGTV Home Wisteria Tree.

Yay! I need a new doormat.

We aren’t done yet!

I just couldn’t NOT USE the Highland Loch! I had already been wanting to paint the inside of the door for a long time for dramatic effect.  I went back and forth a few times wondering if the inside had to be the same as the outside. Everything I googled was all the same! People were painting their doors black or navy or some other neutral and painted the inside the same as the outside. I get it. It looks sharp! But I still questioned my purple? (Blue matched my interiors so much better!) I had about a week of turmoil over this. And I convinced myself that the inside should be the same as the outside, so I actually painted the inside with Wisteria Tree and …. just, no. Oh, it was awful. I didn’t think to take a picture, but you should be glad you don’t have to see it. I painted it Highland Loch the very next day. SO MUCH BETTER!

Also, did you notice that the frosting on my window is gone? It was a GILA brand window film (you just wet it and stick to the window). I forgot to think about that before painting the inside annnd all the paint dripped in the crevices. So goodbye window film. I’ll have to buy some more to replace it.

I’m pretty happy with how it all turned out! What do you think? Let me know in the comments below!

P.S. It was REALLY hard to get a photo of the door inside, with the sun shining through (RIP window film). This is the best photo that I could get. The second photo in this post is the most accurate color depictions.
P.P.S. I had enough paint in the little Sherwin Williams sample jars for each side of the door! The containers are 8 oz and can cover up to 25 square feet apparently! The more you know.
